Fifthline Build Co.’s long-term goal isn’t to be the only entity building attainable housing in Kansas City — it’s to build the housing production capacity that lets more of the region’s builders, nonprofits, and community organizations deliver housing on infill sites that today don’t pencil.

Modular, panelized, site-built, and emerging methods all have a place when they improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. That means positioning Fifthline Build Co. as shared regional infrastructure: a production capability that aligned builders, community land trusts, and housing authorities can draw on, rather than a competitor bidding for the same handful of projects.

Getting there starts small — a proof of concept, then pilot production — before scaling the combination of methods and capacity that can serve the broader region. Collaborators can follow that path in more detail through the collaborator ecosystem platform.

Fifthline Build Co. is working toward a different housing ecosystem through innovative building technology, a range of construction methods, and creative capital structures. We look to urban cores here and abroad that have gone through this kind of transformation for lessons that can inform the work in Kansas City.

This builds on the connected challenges of land, approvals, financing, production, and community trust. Changing how housing gets delivered means strengthening the relationships and shared capacity that let local builders and organizations keep doing the work, beyond any individual project.
